Detroit Lakes Tornado Recovery: Relief Assistance Available for Eligible Homeowners and Renters
The REALTORS® Relief Foundation Disaster Relief Assistance Program is offering financial assistance to qualifying Becker County residents whose primary residence sustained physical damage during the tornado. Assistance is intended to help families remain housed while they recover.

Could You Qualify for Disaster Relief Assistance?
On July 6, 2026 a tornado hit northern Becker County. That tornado was classified as an EF2, with wind speeds of approximately 115 mph. The Becker County Board of Commissioners declared a Local Emergency on July 8, 2026, citing widespread damage to public and private property and the need for extraordinary emergency response and recovery measures.
The Lakes Country Association of REALTORS® is partnering with Minnesota REALTORS® to provide qualifying homeowners and renters with direct financial assistance of up to $1,000 to help address immediate recovery needs, including temporary housing or property damage.
The funding for this grant is provided by the REALTORS® Relief Foundation. The REALTORS® Relief Foundation was created to provide housing-related support to communities where REALTORS® live and work. REALTORS® not only help families find a home, they also help families return home following disasters.
Assistance Available
Eligible applicants may receive up to $1,000 per household to help with one of the following:
- Monthly mortgage payment for a damaged primary residence
- Temporary rental housing if displaced
- Hotel reimbursement if displaced from the primary residence
Applications must be submitted by September 9, 2026. Assistance is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to available funding
